Mandy Richards
Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist
Mandy is a UKCP accredited Integrative Child Psychotherapist who works therapeutically with children, young people and their families to develop and promote emotional and psychological wellbeing. Mandy’s speciality is providing long-term psychotherapeutic support for an in-depth exploration of difficulties and lasting change.
Mandy is experienced in working with children and young people who have experienced early trauma including abuse, neglect, violence, and loss, where early significant relationships have been stressful and frightening rather than warm and nurturing. Using an ‘integrative’ approach she draws upon a range of psychological theories and applications- including attachment theory, neuroscience and the Neurosequential Model- as well as the work of leading clinicians in the field of developmental trauma and loss such as Dan Hughes’ Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and Sensory Attachment Intervention developed by Eadaoin Bhreathnach. Mandy is in the process of working towards DDP certification.
Mandy works in a relational, playful and creative way, and is focused on building and fostering relationships in which traumatised children can begin to recover and heal. Parents and carers are recognised in her therapeutic work as being an important part of this healing process.
Mandy has much experience working in schools and colleges across Sussex, as well private practice. Her experience also includes working with children and young people who have special needs and learning difficulties.
Mandy is passionate about supporting all those impacted by adverse childhood experiences to recover and recover well. She believes it is possible to learn security and to go on and function well in life when the right types of support are provided. Mandy is available for individual therapy, therapeutic parenting and DDP.
